A special CBI court in Mumbai on Wednesday dismissed the bail plea of Indrani Mukherjee, the main accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. The court said that after release on bail, the possibility of the accused influencing the prosecution witnesses cannot be ruled out.
After failing to get bail on medical grounds several times, Mukherjee filed another petition in December last year seeking bail on the merits of the case. But CBI court special judge JC Jagdale dismissed Indrani’s plea on Wednesday.
The court said that some important witnesses in the case such as Rahul Mukherjee, son of accused Peter Mukherjee and daughter of Indrani Mukherjee and her ex-husband, Law and co-accused Sanjeev Khanna, are yet to be examined. The judge said, “There is no doubt that the accused is influential and rich person.” Therefore, the possibility of influencing the prosecution witnesses cannot be ruled out. ‘
Arguing for bail, Indrani Mukherjee told the court that the prosecution’s case was false and baseless and that it had about 120 documents to prove it. He said that there is no scientific evidence to prove that the crime was committed.
She cited inconsistencies in the prosecution’s evidence to prove her role as one of the murderers of the conspirator and her daughter Sheena Bora. Mukherjee also doubted the credibility and validity of the investigation. Indrani Mukherjee claimed that there were many contradictions in the statements of prosecution witnesses, including actor-turned-witness Shyamvar Rai.
