An employee of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has been arrested for providing combat aircraft information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The Maharashtra Police said on Friday that the person was giving intelligence information about the Indian fighter aircraft and its manufacturing unit to ISI.
A police officer said, “The Nashik unit of the State Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) had received reliable intelligence about the person. The person was in constant contact with ISI. ‘ He said that the person was providing intelligence related information about the Indian fighter aircraft and its sensitive detailed information, besides the restricted area at the HAL Aircraft Manufacturing Unit, Air Force Base and Manufacturing Unit at Ozar in Nashik.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Official Secrets Act. The police officer said that three mobile handsets and two memory cards along with five SIM cards have been seized from him. He said that phones and SIM cards are being sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination.
The official said the accused was produced in court on Friday and has been remanded to ATS custody for 10 days. HAL’s Nashik Aircraft Division manufactures MiG-21FL aircraft and K-13 missiles. It was founded in 1964. It is located in Ozhar, 24 km from Nashik and about 200 km from Mumbai.
The division also produces other MiG variants such as the MiG-21M, MiG-21BIS, MiG-27M and state-of-the-art Sukhoi SU-30 MKI fighter aircraft. The division has also repaired MiG series aircraft and SU-30 MKI aircraft.
Earlier on October 5, a person was arrested from Nashik itself. A Nashik court had sent a person to police custody till October 9 on charges of sending photographs of Deolali’s defense sector to a WhatsApp group in Pakistan.
