Breakdance is now officially an Olympic sport

Breakdance is now officially an Olympic sport. The International Olympic Committee has included it in the 2024 Games in Paris. The IOC has taken this decision to woo the younger audience, besides skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing have also been included in these sports. These three games were to be included in the Tokyo Olympics which were postponed for a year due to the corona virus epidemic.

The IOC reduced the number of medal events at the Paris Games by 10 compared to Tokyo, which means there will now be 329 medal events. Four categories of weightlifting have been reduced, along with the players quota in 2024 will be 10500 which is 600 less than the Tokyo Olympics. The biggest cuts have been made from boxing and weightlifting, which are facing administrative irregularities. The Paris Games will have 120 players in charge, which is less than half of Rio de Janeiro.

Due to the history of doping and the slow pace of implementation of the reform, it could also be removed altogether. The IOC also stated that its long-term goal in the Olympics is equal participation of men and women. Breakdacing will be known as breaking in the Olympics as it was called in America in the seventies. Paris organizers proposed to include it after a successful trial in youth sports in Buenos Aires two years ago. The IOC board later approved it. Surfing will take place on the shores of Tahiti in the Pacific Ocean, 15000 kilometers away.
