A team of specialist doctors under the direction of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonwal today examined the ailing mother of imprisoned farmer leader Akhil Gogoi. Akhil Gogoi’s 63-year-old mother Priyada Gogoi has been suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, cataracts and multiple sclerosis. Priyada Gogoi is currently bedridden at her home in Chalenghat Lukhurakhan village, Mariani, Jorhat district.
On the other hand, Dr. Amit Kumar Shaikia, Jorhat District Joint Director of Health, today dispatched a team of specialist doctors from Jorhat Medical College to examine Priyada Gogoi as per an urgent directive received from the Government of Assam. A team of doctors comprising Dr. Kalpana Chetia, Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, Dr. Amlan Jyoti Sharma Kashyap, Ophthalmologist and Dr. Biswajit Shaikia, Orthopedic Surgeon, examined the health of the entire mother and administered the medicine.
The team of doctors informed that Priyada Gogoi would have to undergo eye surgery and also offered her advice for early admission in Jorhat Medical College for proper treatment. Priyada Gogoi, in front of a team of doctors, said that she would undergo eye surgery as soon as her son Akhil was released from jail. Rakesh Konwar and Puspa Kakati, health workers at Nakshari Block Primary Health Center, assisted the team of specialist doctors.
