Eight people were injured in a shootout at a mall near Milwaukee in Wawatosa, Wisconsin, US. The attacker escaped from the scene. Vavatosa police chief Barry Weber says investigators are trying to identify the suspect in the Mayfair Mall shooting.
Barry said the initial statements show that the accused who carried out the incident is a 20 to 30-year-old male. “The fire department has taken seven adults and a teenager to the hospital,” the police chief said. However, it is not yet known how serious his injuries are. No deaths have been reported yet. Currently, the injured are undergoing treatment.
Wawatosa Mayor Dennis McBride said, 75 police officers have been sent to the Mayfair Mall as soon as the incident was reported. None of the victims were exposed to injuries that could be life-threatening. However, we are taking all precautions on our behalf.
According to local media reports, a large number of police personnel have been deployed at the scene. Ambulances also appeared standing. Police officers, armed with sophisticated weapons, were seen entering the mall.
An eyewitness present at the mall said that there was an atmosphere of fear among the customers after hearing the firing. The mall staff immediately stepped in and asked all the customers to bow down and took them to the back of the mall. At the same time the main gate was closed. He told that dozens of customers and six employees were locked in a room behind the mall. These people came out only when the police team arrived here.
Investigators are working on determining the identity of the suspect. He said that the accused who had opened fire had escaped even before the police officers reached the spot.
