Former Assam Chief Minister and Congress leader Tarun Gogoi died at 5.34 pm in GMCH,Guwahati on Monday. He was 84 years old. State Health Minister Himant Biswa has given this information. At the same time, PM Modi has expressed grief over the death of Gogoi. PM Modi tweeted that Gogoi was a popular leader and experienced administrator with years of experience in Assam and at the Center.
President Ramnath Kovind has also expressed grief over the death of Gogoi. He said that I am deeply saddened by the death of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. His death occurred at the end of an era.
Rahul Gandhi expressed grief that Shri Tarun Gogoi was a true Congress leader. He dedicated his life to bring all the people and communities of Assam together. For me he was a great and intelligent teacher. I loved and respected him very much.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has also expressed grief over the death of Gogoi. He tweeted and wrote that I condole the demise of former Assam Chief Minister, a senior leader and our most respected Tarun Gogoi da. Gogoi Da’s death marks the end of an era in Assam’s public life. He was very healthy and happy till a few days ago. I cannot believe this sad news.
Let us know that Gogoi’s health was serious for a few days. On November 2, he was hospitalized and then put on dialysis. He fainted on Saturday due to multiple organ failure and difficulty in breathing. After this he was also placed on ventilator.
Incidentally, dialysis was being done despite being on ventilator due to the availability of a new machine. With the help of six hours of dialysis, a lot of toxic substances were removed from his body. After this some hope was raised. During this time Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also talked to Tarun Gogoi’s son Gaurav. It is to be noted that Tarun Gogoi was the Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016.
