Former world champion Viswanathan Anand suffered a 0.5–2.5 loss against world number three Ding Liran in the eighth round of the $ 15,000 Prize Legends of Chase online tournament, his seventh defeat in the tournament.
Anand, who broke the order of six consecutive defeats in the previous match, lost his first match against the Chinese player in just 22 moves late on Tuesday night. The second game was a draw after 47 moves, after which Liran won the third game by winning in 41 moves while playing with black pieces.
Anand finished in the points table with six points, along with Lyren and Peter Lecco. Fifty-year-old Anand will play against Vasyl Ivanchuk in the ninth and final round. World number one Magnus Carlson defeated Russia’s Ian Nepomaniacchi.
The tiebreaker also touched par after being a regular draw, but the Norwegian player won by playing with black pieces. Carlson leads the way with 22 points. He is followed by Nepomaniacchi (19) and Anish Giri (15).
