On Sunday, gunmen killed five people and kidnapped 18 people in a mosque in the African country of Nigeria. The Nigeria Police confirmed the incident. The attack took place in the country’s northwestern state of Jamfara on Friday. Police spokesman Muhammad Shehu said the incident was carried out in Dastan Gari community in Marul area of Jamfara region.
Shehu said that the gunmen kidnapped 18 people, including the imam present in the mosque. The attackers then opened fire. In this attack, two people died on the spot. At the same time, three died during treatment in the hospital.
Eyewitnesses said that the gunmen reached there by motorbike and started firing at the people who were offering prayers. After the attack, the attackers fled to a nearby forest. As soon as the incident was reported, the police reached the spot and started searching for the attackers. Looting, kidnapping and other criminal activities have raged in the northwestern region of Nigeria in recent times.
