US President-elected Joe Biden and Vice President-elected Kamala Harris have been honored by Time magazine. The magazine selected him as ‘Person of the Year’ for 2020. The publication announced this on Thursday. The Democratic Party pair has been chosen from three other finalists.
Biden and Harris created history by winning the presidential and vice-presidential elections in November this year. Biden defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 US presidential election. At the same time, Harris has been elected America’s first black and first South Asian vice-president. Earlier, in 2016, Donald Trump had chosen Donald Trump as ‘Person of the Year’.
A cover of Biden, 78, and Harris, 56, has been published on the cover of the magazine. Its title is- ‘America’s story is changing’. Trump has been defeated by real estate industrialist-turned-politician Biden by 306 electoral college votes after a stint. At the same time, Trump has got 232 electoral college votes in the election.
Since the year 1927, Time magazine honors a person or people who have been in the news for better or worse effect. Earlier on Thursday, Time selected basketball superstar LeBron James as Athlete of the Year. He has been given this honor for his achievements both inside and outside the court.
Time editor Edward Felsenthal said, “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were chosen as Time magazine’s 2020 Person of the Year for their change in American story, for showing more empathy for divisive agendas and for giving the world a hope.”
