Kolkata Knight Riders to a thrilling win against Chennai Super Kings

After the superb half-century innings of Rahul Tripathi (81), the bowling performance of the bowlers led Kolkata Knight Riders to a thrilling win against Chennai Super Kings by ten runs. With this, Dinesh Karthik’s team has reached number three in the points table with the third win in five matches. Chennai is present at the fifth place.

In the 21st match of the league played in Abu Dhabi, Kolkata team was dismissed for 167 runs before playing. Apart from Tripathi, Sunil Narine and Pat Cummins scored 17–17. In response, Chennai were able to score 157 runs for five wickets and lost the match by ten runs. For him, Shane Watson scored the most 50 runs.

Chennai started off chasing the target. Watson shared a 30-run first wicket stand with Faf du Plessis (17) and a 69-run partnership for the second wicket with Ambati Rayudu (30). The team had completed 100 runs losing two wickets in 13 overs. Then Watson was overturned by Sunil Narine LBW. From here, no batsman including captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (11) could handle the innings. Ravindra Jadeja scored 21 not out off eight balls with three fours and a six. Mavi, Nagerkoti, Russell, Naren and Varun took one wicket each from Kolkata.

Earlier, Rahul Tripathi, who came to the opening for Kolkata, stayed on one end for 17 overs while wickets kept falling at the other end. Half of the total runs scored by the team came from Tripathi’s bat. Ten other players scored 86 runs together. Tripathi scored his first half of the season and his fifth half-century of the IPL. He added 37 for the first wicket with Shubman Gill (11) and 33 for the second wicket with Nitish Rana (9). Morgan (7) and Andre Russell (02) again failed.

Captain Dinesh Karthik failed once again. He played 11 balls and scored 12 runs with the help of a four. He has been able to score only 49 runs in five matches. Cummins, the most expensive foreign player in IPL history, scored an unbeaten 17 from nine balls with the help of a six and a four. The team lost three wickets in the last over. Kamlesh Nagerkoti (00) and Shivam Mavi (00) were caught out by Bravo while Varun Chakraborty (01) was run out. Bravo from Chennai while Shardul Thakur, Sam Karan and Karn Sharma took two wickets each.
