Following the rally in the global markets, the major stock indices Sensex and Nifty also witnessed a spurt in early trading on Monday. The BSE Sensex rose 361.93 points, or 0.77 percent, to an all-time high of 47,335.47. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty climbed 110.55 points or 0.80 percent to reach a new peak of 13,859.80.
Except for HDFC and Asian Paints, all the stocks were trading profitably in the Sensex. The Sensex had gained 529.36 points or 1.14 percent to close at 46,973.54 on Thursday, while the NSE Nifty rose 148.15 points or 1.09 percent to 13,749.25 points on Thursday.
Markets were closed on Friday due to Christmas. On Monday, Asia, China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and other major markets were trending. Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude futures slipped 0.31 percent to USD 51.14 per barrel.
