The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has signed a major agreement on sports in India. The Cabinet approved a Letter of Agreement (MoU) between BRICS countries for cooperation in the field of ‘physical culture’ and sports.
In a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the government said, “Cooperation in the field of sports between the five countries will help in expanding the understanding and expertise in the fields of sports science, sports medicine, coaching techniques etc., as a result international tournaments. The performance of our players will improve and will help in strengthening bilateral relations between BRICS member countries.
He said, ‘The benefits arising from cooperation in the field of sports between the five countries will be equally applicable to all the players irrespective of their caste, creed, region, religion and gender.’
BRICS is a group of five emerging countries which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. These five countries represent about 42 percent of the world population, 23 percent of GDP, 30 percent of the region and 18 percent of global industry.
