President Donald Trump has suffered another major setback by the US Supreme Court’s dismissal of a Texas lawsuit. The court has dismissed petitions overturning the presidential election results filed by Trump’s Republican Party and its supporters. It was said that the court should reverse the election results of the four important states in which Joe Biden has won.
These petitions were placed directly in the Supreme Court seeking a stay of electoral votes from Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to Joe Biden. On this petition by the Attorney General of Texas, the US Supreme Court stated in its unsigned order that Texas did not show judicially cognizant interest in the way other states conduct elections. All pending proposals are dismissed as disputed.
The decision is also a big setback for Trump because Texas is considered a stronghold of the Republican Party and the results of this state were challenged. This decision also means that Biden’s lead will remain intact before the Electoral College voting on 14 December. Now Biden’s oath of office on January 20 is being considered fixed.
According to Supreme Court Judge Samuel Alito and Judge Clarence Thomas, they believe the court should hear the case but did not clarify the situation on the Texas claim. After the court order, Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi said, “The court has taken the right step to dismiss the GOP’s illegal and undemocratic litigation to overturn the will of millions of voters.”
After the US Supreme Court’s decision, President Donald Trump tweeted that the top court let us down. He said that the Supreme Court has no discretion and courage. The Supreme Court held that Texas did not have the legal basis to bring cases against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Several influential lawmakers in the country, including Indian-American female MP Pramila Jaipal in the US, have urged newly elected President Joe Biden to reverse Donald Trump’s immigration policies. These MPs also moved a resolution demanding reform of the immigration system. The MPs said that these proposals are just and fair. Apart from Pramila, other MPs included Jess Chuy Garca, Veronica Escobar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Judy Chu and Yvette Clarke.
Biden has named Chinese-American lawyer Katherine Tai as his candidate for US trade representative. Biden said the main priority of his administration would be to control China’s unfair trade practices. Let me tell you that Tai has been a key ambassador in the Obama-Biden administration against unfair trade practices by China and has been a critic of China.
The newly elected president has urged Americans to rely on the Covid-19 vaccine developed by first-class scientists. Amid reports of pressure from the White House on Food and Drug (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn, Biden said, “I want to make it clear to the public that the vaccine has no political impact.” He said, trust in scientists has brought us to this point.
