On Monday, security forces cracked down on a former stronghold of militants based in northwest Pakistan and killed two Taliban fighters. One of these killed fighters is suspected to have been involved in an attack in October last in which six soldiers were killed.
Pakistan Army said that a third suspect was arrested in this action taken in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The army said its action was based on intelligence. Three months ago, a bomb attack in the area killed six soldiers. No further information was given in this statement of the army.
Pakistani terrorists have increased attacks on troops in areas bordering Afghanistan in recent months. This has given rise to fears that terrorists are reuniting. North and South Waziristan districts used to be the main stronghold for local and foreign terrorists. The Pakistani army controlled the region in 2015 after several operations.
