The bail of Jimmy Lai, a well-known media businessman in Hong Kong, has been revoked. The verdict has been pronounced by the top court here. The court said on Thursday that it was logically considered that the judgment of the former judge was flawed and that the order granting bail was not valid.
Lai was granted bail on December 23 after being detained for three weeks on charges of forgery and endangering national security. His appeal will now be heard on February 1.
On December 3, Lai was accused of fraudulently violating the lease terms of his company Next Digital’s office. On December 12, he was booked under the National Security Act enforced by Beijing on suspicion of endangering national security by colluding with foreign forces.
