The Mount Illy Levetalo volcano on Lambata Island erupted on Sunday

The Mount Illy Levetalo volcano on Lambata Island in eastern Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia erupted on Sunday, causing smoke and ashes to rise to a height of 4,000 meters (13,120 ft) in the sky. Thousands of people were evacuated during this period.

Disaster Mitigation Agency spokeswoman Raditi Jati said, “Around 2,800 people from at least 28 villages were evacuated due to the blast from Mount Illy Levetalo located on Lambta Island.” There is no report of any death or casualty from the blast.


The Ministry of Transport said that after the explosion, a warning was issued to prevent planes from flying there and a local airport was closed as ash spread in many areas of the island.
