The priest was killed and two other people were injured in a shootout in a church in East Texas, USA. Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said at a press conference that the clergy at the Starville Methodist Church opened a toilet door to see that a person was hiding inside. The priest then took out his weapon but the suspect snatched the weapon from him and shot him.
Smith said that one of the other two injured was shot and both were undergoing treatment. Authorities believe the suspect had been hiding in the church since Saturday night after another shooting incident. Smith said police had been searching for the suspect in Winona since Saturday in connection with the incident.
He said that after the pastor was shot, the accused fled with his vehicle, but was apprehended near Harrison County. Smith, however, did not reveal the identity of the pastor and the other two injured. At the same time, no information was given about the suspect. Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement expressing condolences to the family of the clergy and injured in the incident.
