The United Nations Security Council Committee has approved the name of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader Noor Wali Mehsud in the list of banned people and institutions. Under this, travel and weapons restrictions have been imposed on Mehsud along with freezing his property.
On Thursday, the 1267 Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the United States Security Council added Mehsud to its ISIL (Desh) and al-Qaeda sanctions list. In this way Mehsud has been declared a global terrorist.
Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud was listed as per paragraphs 2 and 4 of Proposition 2368 (2017). He has been convicted of financing, planning and providing facilities for al-Qaeda. The United States has praised the move of the United Nations.
US Department for South and Central Asian Affairs tweeted, We welcome the United Nations to put Tehreek-e-Taliban leader Noor Wali Mehsud on ISIL and al-Qaeda’s sanctions list. The TTP was responsible for several suicide attacks in Pakistan. The US declared Noor Wali a terrorist in the country in September 2019.
The TTP is known as the Pakistan Taliban. This terrorist organization has been responsible for several suicide attacks, killing hundreds of civilians. TTP was previously declared a ‘specially designated global terrorist’ (SDGT) by the US State Department.
Noor Wali was named the leader of the TTP after the death of former TTP leader Mullah Fazlullah in June 2018. According to the US State Department, under the leadership of Noor Wali, the TTP has claimed responsibility for several deadly terrorist attacks across Pakistan.
