Transgender people in Pakistan often face social exclusion

Christian transgender people in Pakistan often face social exclusion, ridicule and humiliation, but community members believe that the church built for them will now bring peace and solace. They say that if there is no hearing in other churches, they can share their problems here.

In Pakistan, this church named ‘First Church of Unc (Kinnar)’ is only for transgender Christians. The term ‘Kinnar’ is often used in South Asia for female transgenders, and some consider it derogatory.

The church’s pastor and co-founder Ghazala Shafiq said he chose the name to speak. Citing portions of the Bible, he said that eunuchs are blessed by God. Transgender women and men of all religions often face public humiliation, even violence, in conservative Pakistan.
