With the help of Johnny Bairstow (86 not out), England defeated South Africa by five wickets with four balls to spare in the first T20. Getting the batting invitation, South Africa scored 179 for six with the help of Fof du Plessis (58) and van der Dussen (37). In reply, England scored 183 for five wickets in 19.2 overs.
Bairstow hit nine fours and four sixes in his 48-ball innings. The visiting team needed 18 runs in the last two overs. Rabada’s over came with 11 runs, including a six off Sam Curran (07). When seven runs were required in the final over, Bairstow hit England for victory with a four off the first ball and a six on the second ball. Stokes hit an innings of 37 runs. South African bowlers Lynde and Lungi Nagidi took two wickets each.
